My thesis is centered around my love for portraiture and clowns. I wanted to capture the personalities of a few of my friends with clown makeup I designed, inspired by their characteristics and who I know them to be (with slight exaggeration for some). Confrontational portraits help to give some insight on who you are looking at just by their expressions and what they are wearing. I wanted to challenge that by the addition of something typically seen as a costume. Instead of the makeup being a disguise, it is their true selves coming to the surface.
