A Ball and the Mall

For my capstone project, I’ve made a short, animated film called, A Ball at the Mall. The story is about a guard chasing a robber in a mall. This project was all done traditionally on paper. There are roughly over 600 drawings. The main goal of this project for me was to push my animation skills. The best way to improve my own practice by actually doing it. So I made sure that the cartoon would have many different unique actions and movements to try out many different animation techniques. The reason for doing animation on paper rather than digital is because I wanted to follow in the footsteps of the great animators of the golden age of animation. Many of the best cartoons such as the old Disney movies, Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, were all made on paper. And those cartoons still hold up to this very day. So I felt that to be as good as them, I had to do it their way of animating. Though admittedly it is harder, I find it to be also rewarding and forces me to push my draftsmanship, and my skills as an animator.
