Soul Squad
Soul Squad is a very story-heavy roleplaying game. It has a turn-based system that combines type matchups with quick time events. From the very start, it establishes itself as a text-heavy game with a visual novel sequence. The story–The heart of my thesis, where the game part is more skeletal, is a coming of age adventure mystery about growing up while trying to exist in two different worlds. It follows young Soleil and her brother Ike discovering that they belong to a whole other world- the afterlife- but they still have their whole lives ahead of them in the “real world.” The story I want to tell is one that is very very long, and I would never have enough time even with all the time in the world to fully explore everything I want to explore with it. My thesis is the very beginning of the very first chapter, where in its infancy it was proof of concept and it is now a collaborative creation. My success in this thesis project comes from becoming my own producer, having a finger in each pie of the creative pipeline. The piepline, if you will.
