Wizard Waltz
My thesis Wizard Waltz is a love letter to music-based video games, flamboyant wizard fashion, and impractical uses of magic. Both music and video games have always provided for me an escape from the dreary and the sadness that life throws at you with the ability it gives to experience the life of someone other than yourself—whether fictional or not… and just for a little while. The player character, aptly referred to as “The Bard”, embodies this idea of becoming someone you could never be under normal circumstances. Accidentally taking part in a secret Magic Tournament, The Bard takes on the guise of a magic-user despite being an average, magic-less human and finds that the qualifications of being “magical” aren’t as daunting as they may have originally thought, and that perhaps there’s magic in being ordinary…
Wizard Waltz began coming to fruition when I asked myself: what kind of game do I want to play? What parts of music and games give me the most enjoyment, and how can I shove all of them together into one project? Combining loveable characters and engaging musical performance gameplay became the goal.
